Thomas Richard’s big weekend not enough; Gators swept by LCC
The Lower Columbia Red Devils came steamrolling into the weekend series with the Gators having won 12 of their last 13 games and undefeated in NWAC Western Division play. The Gators just came off a big weekend taking two out of four with four-time defending Western Division champions. Lower Columbia proved once again why they are one of the NWAC powerhouses.
Lower Columbia outscored the Gators in the two games Saturday 20-1. The Gators managed just five hits in the two games and committed four errors. Things would not be much different Sunday as Lower Columbia traveled to Heritage Park to play the Gators on their home field for the 2015 season. This time they would outscore the Gators 18-3 by winning 8-2 and 9-1. The Gators record falls to 3-10 in league and 7-23 overall.
Thomas Richards was one of the few bright spots for Gators. He went 5 for 12 with two doubles and a base on balls on the weekend. Sophomore pitcher Chase Kairis had a solid outing on Sunday going 7 and 1/3 innings with two strikeouts allowing 2 runs.
For the Gators, it doesn’t get any easier as they have four games with fourth ranked Tacoma this weekend. They have won 11 of their last 13 and currently sit at 11-2 in conference play. They will play two at Minnitti Field on Saturday and two at Heritage Park on Sunday.
