Green River Community College Foundation hosts Painting with the Stars to benefit art education program

AUBURN, WA - The Green River Community College Foundation will host its Annual Painting with the Stars dinner and auction Thursday to benefit the Interurban Center for the Arts (ICA). The event begins at 6:30 p.m. on Feb. 27 at the Lindbloom Student Center on Green River's main campus in Auburn.

Tickets are $15 pre-purchased and $20 at the door.

The evening will feature dessert bites, wine, cider, live and silent auctions and interactive art and student art displays. Local artists will showcase their talents in carving, painting, Native American art, printmaking and ceramics creating artwork that will be available in the live auction. Guests will also have the opportunity to become artists themselves and participate in collaborative artworks.

This year's Painting with the Stars artists are:

  • State Senator Joe Fain
  • Auburn Mayor Nancy Backus
  • Green River Community College President, Dr. Eileen Ely
  • King County Council Member Pete von Reichbauer
  • King County Prosecuting Attorney Daniel Satterberg
  • Maple Valley Councilmember Linda Johnson
  • Elementary school principals Mike McCarthy and Laurel Menard
  • Community volunteers and artists

All proceeds from the Painting with the Stars support the ICA program which has been serving local elementary schools by providing training and educational materials to volunteer art docent programs. Now in its 30 year, the ICA provides education art experiences to students in elementary schools in seven local districts. Over 14,000 students create over 100,000 pieces of art providing a positive impact on children's learning by showcasing artists and their work, art history and hands-on, age-appropriate projects.
