Softball misses postseason due to tiebreaker
The Gators went into the final week of the season with an outside chance at making the postseason. They needed to overcome what some would view as an impossible obstacle of beating two of the top teams in the division and needing Grays Harbor to lose. They went into a double header against a 10-4 Highline team and stunned them by beating them twice, while Centralia took care of Grays Harbor opening the door for the Gators.
The Gators then faced a red hot Pierce team who was 12-4 and they still needed one more win than Grays Harbor. The Gators took care of business in game one defeating Pierce 13-6 but the Pierce offense proved to be too much in game two defeating the Gators 17-8. Grays Harbor split the day with Highline and secured the fourth and final playoff spot by tiebreaker.
Key contributors against Pierce were: Kari Grow who went 6 for 7 with five RBI, Allie Allen went 4-6 with three runs batted in, and Rylie Decker went 4-7 while driving in four runs.
The Gators finished the season 11-26 overall improving their win total by four wins from last season. The Gators will return 10 players for next year but will lose two great sophomores Aris Califano and Ashley Starke. Aris Califano finished her career with a .459 batting average and Ashley Starke racked up 13 extra base hits in her two years.
