Fastpitch drops tough games to Grays Harbor; remains in playoff race
The Gators entered the weekend in a tie for the fourth and final playoff spot with Grays Harbor, who were their opponent for the weekend. The two teams considered these games must-win games if they wanted to be in the playoffs. The Gators dropped the first game 10-4 and then came up one run short in game two losing 7-6.
There were some standout performances by Gators over the weekend. Aris Califano improved her team leading batting average by going 4 for 7 with two doubles and two runs batted in; her batting average now sits at .436 for the season. Morgan Frost remained hot at the plate going 4 for 8 with two doubles and two runs batted in as well. Finally, Cherry Alejo went 4 for 7 and blasted her first home run of the season.
The road to the postseason will not be an easy one for the Gators. Their four remaining games are against Highline and Pierce who are each 10-4 and have clinched a playoff spot. They will need some help as well as Grays Harbor will take on Centralia and Highline. Grays Harbor owns the tie-breaker so the Gators will have to win by a whole game to make the playoffs.
They will take on Highline at Kent Service Fields on May 5 and Pierce at Kent Service Fields on May 8 for Sophomore Day. Game times are at 2:00 and 4:00 p.m.
