Green River College Participatory Governance College Council holds first meeting

On April 14, Green River's College Council held their first meeting in the AD Boardroom at 11 a.m. The planning for Participatory Governance began last year as the Board of Trustees passed Policy GP-9 in response to accreditation report citations indicating a need for Green River to increase broad participation across campus.

President Ely kicked-off the meeting by welcoming all of the newly elected College Council representatives and requesting input on summer hours as the council's first issue of business.

"Today is a landmark day for the College'' said Ely, ''we need to hear from you."

Dr. Ely described the process involved with creating the structure of Participatory Governance, which included significant research into other college governance models and the participation of a diverse steering committee over the last year. The current council model includes 5 constituent councils representative of everyone on campus as well as 8 sub-councils representative of the standing committees related to the College's Strategic Plan.
