Meet the 2014-15 Green River womens basketball team.

The Lady Gators finished up their season on Saturday with a 70-35 loss to the Centralia Trailblazers. The night was highlighted by honoring the six sophomores who would be playing in their last game as a Gator. Although the final result of the game was not what the Gators had hoped for, the 2014-2015 season was a season of growth and optimism for the future.

The Gators would have preferred that the season had ended after their Feb. 18 victory over Tacoma, which capped a three-game winning streak. However they had to face third-place Highline and second- place Centralia to finish the year.

In the loss to Centralia, Gina Mitchell scored 14 points finishing as the leading scorer for the Gators for the second straight year, as she finished the season averaging 13.14 points per game.

Looking forward to next season, the Gators will return freshman sharp shooter Nikki Qualls, who broke the individual single-season record for 3-point field goals made at 78, shattering the previous record of 63. They also return 6-foot center Jessica Norlander, who finished the year on fire, averaging 17.8 points and 7.8 rebounds per game in her last five games. In addition to those two, the Gators will return 5-foot-11-inch wing Samantha Cox, who was named a starter halfway through the season and was playing well before she suffered sprains in both ankles.

The 2013-2014 Gators finished the year 1-15 in league and 3-22 overall, and tied for eighth place in the West. In 2014-2015 they improved to 6-10 in league and 11-17 overall and finished in sixth place in the West. First year head coach Bob Kickner hopes to keep improving next year and beyond.
