Lunar New Year a big success
On the evening of Friday, Feb. 13, students, staff and community members celebrated Lunar New Year at Green River College. Nearly 500 people came to celebrate the Year of the Sheep, setting a new record for attendance.
Lunar New Year, also referred to as Chinese New Year, commemorates the second new moon after the winter solstice; in many Asian cultures, it is celebrated for days or even weeks at a time.
Here at Green River, the International Programs and Student Life departments collaborate every year to mark the holiday with traditional dancing, cultural performances and food.
In addition to the traditional cultural components of the event, students enjoyed a free Casino Night with fake money, as well as a professional DJ dance party.
With so many participants and such a diverse schedule, Lunar New Year 2015 was a resounding success!
