Women’s Basketball falls to Multnomah U, 73-59
Meet the 2014-15 women`s basketball team.
The Lady Gators fell to the Multnomah Lions this past Saturday, losing 59-73.
The Gators came out of the gate looking sharp, pulling out to a 35-30 lead at half time. They were moving the ball well, making great decisions and making free throws when they were given their opportunity.
The second half did not go as smoothly. The Multnomah Lions, who were 0-6, were determined to get their first victory of the season and they knew it was within reach. It seemed as if they could not miss. For the Gators however, the tables had turned. They were still moving the ball very well and making great decisions, but they could not get a shot to fall.
Nikki Qualls, who is usually dynamite from three-point land, was missing open threes; Gina Mitchell, who averaged 15.2 PPG coming into the game, shot just 25 percent; and the entire Gators team was outscored 43-24 in the second half with a shooting percentage of 24.3 percent.
Mitchell did have a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds, while Qualls had 11 points and Samantha Cox pulled down 10 rebounds. Jordan Speelmon was giving gifts to her teammates on her birthday, as she had six assists.
The Lady Gators will get to redeem themselves as they host Olympic College at The Swamp on Tuesday, Dec. 9, at 6 p.m.
