Men’s Basketball starts season 3-1, finishes fourth at Pierce Invite
The Gators came out strong in their home opener by defeating Edmonds Community College 76-61. The Gators used a strong first half, outscoring the Tritons 34-18, that took them all the way to victory as they never trailed in the game.
Glenn Brooks and Trevante Williams led the Gators in scoring, as the two combined to score 43 of the team's 76 points: Brooks with 22 and Williams with 21.
Williams and C.M. Garrett each pulled down 11 rebounds and Brooks added 7. The Gators shot 41 percent from the field, while the Tritons shot only 38 percent. The Gators out-rebounded the Tritons 47-36.
The Gators traveled to Pierce College for the Pierce Thanksgiving Invitational where they went 2-1 and finish in fourth place. Their first match up was against the Bellevue Bulldogs on Friday. The Gators lost 70-68 on a 3-pointer in the final three seconds of regulation. The loss sent the Gators to the loser's bracket with a best-case-scenario of fourth place. With Brooks at 27 points and Williams at 26, they led the Gators on scoring again. The Gators were out-rebounded 30-28.
In game two of the tournament, the Gators won handily by a score of 73-52 over Linn-Benton. The Gators had four players in double-digit points: Damon Cikanek with 12; Bernard Sanders with 11; Garrett with 15; and Williams with 17. Garrett also pulled down 11 rebounds and contributed to the Gators out-rebounding of Linn-Benton, 41-28.
The Gators won the finale over Columbia Basin by a score of 72-63, giving them fourth place in the tournament. Williams led all scorers with 29 and pulled down 16 rebounds, giving him a double-double. He also had six steals, which led both teams, and was named to the Pierce Thanksgiving Invitational All-Tournament team. He averaged 24.3 PPG and had a 55 percent FG Percentage.
The Gators will travel to Spokane on Dec. 5 for the Bigfoot Classic at Spokane Community College.
