GRCC connects with transitioning service members
Last week Washington state hosted one of the largest events for transitioning service members the nation has ever seen.
The Service Member for Life Transition Summit is one of six regional conferences that aim to help service members make a successful transition out of the military by connecting them to education and employment opportunities.
The three-day summit brought key leaders from federal, state, military and private agencies together to learn about current initiatives and announce new partnerships that will benefit veterans and their families for many years to come.
Notable keynote speakers were U.S. Sen. Patty Murray, Gov. Jay Inslee, Maj. Gen. Bret Daugherty (Adjutant General of Washington state), and Eric Eversole, Vice President, U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation.
The event culminated in an education/employment fair, and it is estimated that more than 3,000 service men and women attended. Green River Community College was well represented at the summit, with team members from Student Affairs and WorkForce Education participating.
Special thanks to Adam Brown, Dr. Deb Casey, Sandra Davidson, Timm Lovitt and Caitlin Orchard for representing the Gators!
