Volleyball sweeps Lower Columbia and Grays Harbor, Rochelle Middlebrooks leads the attack

Freshman Rochelle Middlebrooks, Rainier Beach High School, had 10 kills and Sophomore Maelynn Lautalo, Federal Way High School, had 12 kills as the Gators swept the visiting Lower Columbia Red Devils 3-0 Wednesday night at The Swamp.

Set scores were 25-19, 25-18, and 25-23. The Gators started their league play 1-0 and improved their overall record to 12-12.

Audra Koke, Fife High School, contributed big time with 22 assists and five kills of her own. As a team, the Gators' hitting percentage was .384 and they had 43 kills total and five blocks as a team.

On Friday, the Gators traveled to Aberdeen, Wash. to face off against the Grays Harbor Chokers.

Rochelle Middlebrooks' match high 15 kills led the Gators to another 3-0 sweep. The set scores were 25-18, 25-21, and 25-15.

Faith Faamausili, Kent-Meridian High School, also shined with 15 kills and one block. Audra Koke contributed again with 20 assists and Carly Manning, Kentridge High School, added 17 assists of her own. Libero Dana Alderson, Bonney Lake High School, had 12 defensive digs and Maelynn Lautalo had 15 digs as well. The Gators improved their league record to 2-0 and their season record to 13-12.

The Gators will put their 2-0 record on the line as they take on Western Division rival Tacoma on Wednesday, Oct. 1, at home in The Swamp at 7 p.m. Tacoma is also 2-0 and ranked fourth in the NWAC Alaska Airlines Volleyball Coaches Poll.
