Women’s Soccer week in review: Sept. 2-9
On Tuesday, Sept. 2, the Gator Women's Soccer team hosted two-time defending Northwest Athletic Conference champions, Peninsula College. The Gators fell to the Pirates by a score of 3-0. Sophomore Goalkeeper Molly Lambert (Del Norte High School) was outstanding with 10 saves.
On Friday, Sept. 5, the Gators played host to Bellevue College at Wilson Playfields.
Freshman Defender Wendy Vollmer (Tahoma High School) recorded her first-ever collegiate goal with a beautiful strike at the 81st minute to cut the score to 2-1, but the Gators could not find the back of the net again. The Gators lost this tightly-contested match by a final of 2-1. Lambert had five saves.
The Gators hit the road for a trip to Aberdeen, Wash., to face the Grays Harbor Chokers. The Chokers made history by hosting their first-ever home soccer match.
The Gators crashed the party as they scored early and often to cruise to a 6-1 victory, their third of the season (3-3-0). Freshman Forward Kennedy Schumacher (Puyallup High School) got the scoring started in the 6th minute with a beautiful assist from Freshman Midfielder, Shelsea Carrillo (Thomas Jefferson High School).
Just four minutes later, in the 10th minute, Freshman Forward Brandy Sinclair (Auburn Riverside High School) found the back of the net to take a 2-0 lead over Grays Harbor. The third goal of the match came from the foot of Jennifer Sanchez-Lara (Lindbergh High School) to put the Gators up 3-0.
Just before the end of the first half, Sophomore Captain Monica Whitfield (Enumclaw High School) scored the fourth goal of the match. The goal was assisted by Brandy Sinclair.
The Gators got off to a slow start in the second half and surrendered a goal to Freshman Midfielder Ashley Alonzo (Bonanzo High School) in the 67th minute. The Gators responded two minutes later with Sinclair's second goal of the match.
The sixth and final goal of the match was scored by Kennedy Schumacher in the 74th minute, her second goal of the match. Molly Lambert had three saves and allowed one goal.
The Gator Women's Soccer team will travel to Tacoma Community College this Saturday, Sept. 13 at noon to take on the Titans (1-6-0).
