Green River celebrates Athlete of the Year selections

Congratulations to Blake Collins and Kenicia McClellan, 2014's Green River Community College Male and Female Student Athletes of the Year.

Collins and McClellan were awarded at the ASGRCC Student Life Awards Banquet this past Friday.

Collins of Kamiak, Wash., returned from a season-ending arm injury as a freshman to become the team captain and catcher for the Gators baseball team. He was selected to the second team All-Western region while also earning All-NWAACC Academic honors. He has committed to NCAA Division II Emporia State University in Emporia, Kan., to complete his athletic and academic career.

McClellan of Enumclaw, Wash., was the captain of the Gator softball team, amassing a career batting average of .424 for two seasons, playing first base and being a reserve pitcher. She was a two-time selection to the All-West softball team, represented the Gators in the sophomore all-star game and was a Green River Community College honor roll member.

Blake and Kenicia were outstanding ambassadors for Green River Community College through their participation in athletics, stated Kickner I watched them both grow through challenges faced on and off the field, to become well respected adults, athletes and students I wish them the very best as they move forward in their careers.
