Engineering instructor Janet Ash recognized for third time as UW “Inspirational Teacher”
Janet Ash, engineering instructor, has been honored for the third time by the University of Washington Computer Science and Engineering department as an inspirational teacher.
Nominated by her former students who are now UW CSE majors, Janet was recognized previously in 2009 and 2012.
Each year, the UW Computer Science and Engineering department invites students to nominate inspirational teachers from secondary school or community college teachers who shaped their perceptions of themselves as students. Those teachers, their spouses/guests, and the students who nominated them are honored at a celebratory dinner held at the Allen Center at UW.
"Janet Ash never fails to bring along her cheerful nature whenever she enters the classroom," commented former student Errol Limenta. "She is always available and ready to support her students, to the point where they can walk into her office outside of her office hours."
"Whenever I am in one of Janet's classes, I find myself in an environment where her optimism influences students to think positively and creatively about the work we do."
"Started in 2007, the UW CSE Inspirational Teacher Award is a great way for the school to appreciate local teachers who are doing good work," said Crystal Eney, UW CSE director of student services.
The 2014 Inspirational Teachers celebration is scheduled for May 27.
